Gerardo Vildostegui
2024 Canidate for Surfside Town Commission
Elected into office!

THEORY OF THE CASE:
When fighting entrenched power, the truth is your best tool.
Surfside is small, just 8 blocks long —but it has everything you need for a great life. Its beaches are beautiful, its parks and community center are top-notch. It's a place where you can live well, enjoy nature, and connect with others, all within a cozy, welcoming community.
However, in the last few years, a new political establishment was putting all this in danger — eschewing local values in favor of making the most of Surfside’s charm for their own self-interest, even if it meant destroying those charms in the process.
With PACs pouring over 50,000 USD into influencing the elections with attack ads and dishonesty, our campaign cut through the noise with candor and personalness.
Instead of personal attacks, we contrasted Vildostegui's policy against his opponents with a level of transparency and candor that exposed our opponents lack thereof.
In addition to email marketing, yard signs and all the typical channels, we created a blog where the candidate could take his time to articulate his opinions and the motivations behind them. We used video to give Vildostegui a forum to speak directly and personally to voters on a variety issues.
The strategy was to create a landscape of truth and authenticity, so that even if voters didn’t watch all the videos or read the blog posts – they could sense Vildostegui’s sincerity as a human and diligence as a candidate.
STRATEGY AND MESSAGING
Campaign Tagline:
KEEP SURFSIDE SPECIAL
Campaign Mission Statement:
"I want Surfside to remain the kind of place that fuels dreams, a place where anyone would feel lucky to live, a place that people want to come back to. I want Surfside to be a place where families of all different backgrounds can live together harmoniously, with joy and security. Where quality of life comes first. And where residents can trust their government."
Marketing Strategy:
To accomplish this, Vildostegui's campaign employed a dual approach: actively engaging in face-to-face interactions, and tirelessly canvassing neighborhoods, complemented by an online presence through a blog, website, email marketing, videos, lawn signs, flyers, and hand-written postcards. These platforms encourage voters to delve into his policy proposals and gain a deeper understanding of his character and vision.
